Roewe 250 spied
Chinese manufacturer's Fiesta rival spied testing in Australia.
THE Metro is making a comeback! Spied testing in Australia, these are the best pictures yet of Chinese firm Roewe’s all-new small car, set to be the spiritual successor to the legendary Metro.
Called the 250 it’ll be available in hatchback and saloon form and is the first supermini-sized vehicle to come from Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation – the company which wholly owns Roewe and who took over the Rover in 2005.
Prototypes wearing Fiat Punto bodyshells have been seen already, but these latest shots show exactly how the newcomer will look. And, as you can see, it’s a neat machine, with short front and rear overhangs and a sleek shape. Underneath the skin lies an all-new front wheel drive platform with power coming from a development of the K-Series petrol engine.
Whether the 250 will come to the UK, along with the 550 mid-sized hatch and the 750 large saloon, some doubt still remains. The launch of the Roewe brand in Europe has been delayed and no official date has been set. In the meantime, expect to see a world debut of the 250 towards the end of the year most likely at one of the Chinese motor shows, either Beijing or Guangzhou.
