MG Customer Relations Manager's Christmas Day Diary
Christmas always presents a time for reflection and as I sit here loosening my belt and wondering whether- post Turkey - my trousers will ever be the same again, I thought I just about had time to take a look back on the last year at MG before I settle down to watch Dr Who!
When I was opening my stocking this morning I was, like I am sure some of you, not surprised to find that my nearest and dearest had taken it upon herself to get hold of a nice MG T-shirt for me. It made me wonder how many other people could receive a Christmas gift, branded from their place of work, and actually be pleased about it?
That moment summed up for me exactly what MG is all about, particularly this year – the year we have taken the first meaningful steps on our new journey with the reintroduction to the UK market of the much loved MG TF.
Against a background of economic doom and gloom, the return of MG has been a great success and that is down not only to the quality of the new TF but also to the place the brand occupies in the hearts of so many people. The LE 500 has sold in great numbers despite all of the reasons that could have affected the launch, not because people ‘need’ to buy a fun two-seater roadster but because they really, really wanted to and I can assure you that working for MG is no different.
MG has been a huge part of my working life having started with the brand on my University holidays and stayed right up until that sad day in April 2005 when I truly believed that I would never set foot inside Longbridge again. I took the opportunity to become a part of the future of MG not because I needed to but because I really, really, wanted to and the same can be said for all of my colleagues here at MG in the UK.
We are privileged to represent a brand with such a rich heritage and a supporter base that would be the envy of many a Premiership football team. It has been wonderful to be able to get to speak to and interact with MG fans new and old over the course of the past year and we look forward to continuing to do so in 2009.
We are passionate about providing a quality service to our customers and the MG philosophy is to seek to ensure that everyone who joins MG on this new journey should feel part of a family where the personal touch becomes absolutely what is expected. Undoubtedly my favourite part of my role at MG is the interaction with the LE 500 drivers and I have taken huge pleasure in watching their ownership experiences unfold and being on hand to answer any questions or queries that they might have. The most exciting thing about 2009 is that I get to do it all over again, supporting these existing owners and welcoming an ever increasing number of new MG drivers into our family.
My guess is that, if you are reading this over Christmas (or even on Christmas Day!); you are probably as passionate about MG as we are. On behalf of myself and all my colleagues here at MG UK, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year. I don’t expect you need me to remind you that 2009 is the 85th anniversary of MG! Watch this space…….
