A bit more news received today after I sent this out :
News received from Nacho in Spain :

And this site is unusually praiseworthy about the new TF, especially considering the fact that Longbridge cars will be rhd, so any going to Europe will have to come from China

This translates thus :
Big success of the MG TF in UK
Without any doubt, even the manufacturer will be surprised about the
UK welcome of the new MG TF. Selling it during August, orders can be
done, and if you don't want to lose this beautiful roadster, you will
have to go running to a seller.
In only a couple of days, NAC MG has sold 390 units of TF LE 500, a
limited edition of 500 units with a particular equipment -leather
seats, rear parking sensor, exclusive colours, air conditioning and
hard top-.
One of the main sellers of the brand in UK, Crawley Down Group, has
checked how a lot of previous MG owners become interested in the car.
So, you know, you have to be fast or you lost the opportunity.
Nacho goes on to say :
Autoblog is the less serious motor press in Spain, and usually writes
against any Rover or MG. So it is interesting that they are publishing
the success.
Importing TFs in Spain is difficult. There are two companies:
- Bergé Automocion. They were selling MGs and Rovers in Spain in the
90s. After 2000 they break up with MGR and sell some Chinesse brands:
Ssanyong, Chery, Landwind and so on... they have an agreement with
SAIC and they have the rights to sell Roewe in Spain.
- Sino Motors. They were selling MGs and Rovers in Spain after Bergé.
They were the last company who imported MGR until the collapse. They
have an agreement with NAC to sell the new TF in Spain.
With the fusion of SAIC and NAC the situation in Spain is very
complicated, as Bergé and Sino are competitors. So, at this time,
nobody knows who can import the Chinese TF in Spain.
Anyway, the worst thing for us is that in Longbridge only rhd are
made. I have no doubt that the Longbridge TF will be better than the
Chinese TF.

Do you notice how the MGOC advertise in the China Motor pages ? No small wonder we can't compete.
