Hi Forum,

just had a call from Herbie.
He's currently only co-driver in Bruno's car @ the 1000 bochten run.

Herbies MGF ist standing near their Hotel in Eupen? or Olpen? (didn't get the name right, though)

The backbox has got very hot. Herbie assumes a brocken catalyst and blocked exhaust.

Give him a call or short message to his mobile,
+49 160 xxxxxx [edit number removed]
in case you could suggest a quick solutiion to bring him back on the road before monday.

I.e. with a spare catalyst or bypass pipe or workshop suggestion and things like that.
It's an MK1 MGF, means straight catalyst without bend.

current status:
Option to supply a second hand backbox with catalyst.
Under investigation by User Mykel from the german forum. Parts located in Aachen.

Had a similar Problem with hot backbox and smoked carpet in the boot.
Reason was a broken ignition coil.

Problem solved. Car runs fine and smooth...
.... after proper refitting the ignition centre cabel of the distributor cap
Had come loose whyever and caused ignition confusion, resulting in overheated catalyst and exhaust, and smoked boot carpet.

@Herbie: did you use the new ignition coil or have you left that one in Belgium (Bruno) ? If you still have it, no problem I will order a new one.

I have it, no problem !

We could not check the problem, because of the fact the car was located 140 km's from our hotel. To do a diagnostic then was really hard . A shame we thought not on Friday about this option, because I understood from Herbie that the car was going well, but above some higher refs, there was a lack of power. It seems anyway, that I must understood Herbie wrong, otherwise he had had his car on the "1000 Bochten". A shame !

Thanks everyone for the help, support and taking care of me ! Sunday evening I went to Mykel and stayed there until Monday morning for a more relaxed drive home. MG - truly the marque of friendship !

All parts I want to replace are now ordered (incl. brandnew heatshield, stainless bolts and nuts etc.). I had lot fun going back home, all the way up to Bremen via countryroads. Sometimes I floored it really hard, I think I was infected by Bruno's style
