ECU or engine changes:
The engine and alarm computers are matched - the engine ECU is programmed to recognise a code from the alarm computer. If it doesn't receive the code it is expecting, it shuts off the injectors. Typical symptom of this is that the engine starts and runs for a few seconds then stops.If your engine computer needs replacing, or if you are changing engine and need to change your computer too (for example, from non-VVC to VVC engine) then you will have to either
•fit the matching alarm ECU from the donor car, or
•visit a workshop with the Rover testbook and get the engine ECU reprogrammed to recognise the different alarm ECU.
