MGF LHD Conversion

Hi everyone

As some people on the forum know I am planning to convert a RHD 98 MGF VVC to LHD.

I was planning to start now but am afraid I won't have it finished for this summer but will be doing it over next winter.

I was wondering if someone on the forum could take some pictures of their LHD car for me.

I am looking for pictures under the front hood particularly with the spare tire out and the plastic cover over the Hydralastic connections off.
Pictures of a car with ABS would be preferred.

I am trying to compare placement of components under the hood so as many pictures of components, wire, lines etc would be appreciated.

Thanks, in advance, for your assistance!! :D

No problem John,

At the moment mine is in rebuild stage after a full paint job, this is what I found back in this site's gallery. Made during dismanteling of my car:

Now the car is at home still in a dismanteled stage, feel free to ask for immages in any wanted angle.

Good luck with your project

Kasper

I have 2 MG's Both VVC so with ABS . One LHD and one RHD.
If you have any more questions feel free to post or use the personal message system of the forum (PB)

There's quite a list of things to change :

Steering rack
dashboard
Screen wiper mechanism
screen wipers
hydraulic lines from brake to ABS
Hydraulic lines from Clutch cylinder (or damper if VVC)
Carpets
Fuse box mount
door lock
mirrors

some items can be moved from one side to the other,
but it might be very difficult, such as:

The fusebox (not shure wether the loom is long enough and can be swapped))
steering column
pedal box

Only one convenient thing : the centre console can stay, as this is the same in both versions despite the asymmetric mount of the handbrake.

One day i mlight consider a swap on my RHD as well, if you have any information i would be glad to be informed!

Maybe you could contact Gábor Mészáros from Hungary (Mail: gabor.meszaros@chello.hu).
He bought a RHD MGTF in the UK three weeks ago and parts in the Netherlands for the conversion to LHD. He is now very busy with this project.

Thanks everyone

Looking at Kaspers picture the booster has to be moved also but luckily the ABS unit is in the same place.

I have already purchased the larger parts as I shipped them with the car
but still need the wiper linkage and wiring harness.

I am guessing the dash wiring harness will be different too.

As I mentioned I am going to drive the car as RHD this summer (just can't resist!) and do the conversion next winter.

Kasper, If you could send me some detailed pictures of the area under the front hood that would be much appreciated.

When I start the conversion I plan to take detailed notes and pictures and will have them available for everyone to use.

Before she goes on the road this summer I am going to blast and paint the rear subframe and detail the engine as I had it taken out of the car before shipping!

Thanks again!
John

Ad, he has just bought another one last Friday to do the same conversion. He seems to be making a nice little business out of it (and Weusthof are supplying the parts I believe).

Of course he could make a nice little business. Only 5 new MGF's and 10 MGTF's are sold in Hungary between 1995 and 2005. Stefan is supplying the parts for the conversion and he is supplying the MGF register for data we are looking for :D
